There are four ways of getting around Hua Hin: on local buses (Song Thew), on Tuk-Tuk / car taxis, on motorcycle taxi or by tricycle. There are no metered taxis in Hua Hin.
Song Thew are open truck-style buses. They operate on route Khao Takiab - Chatchai Market (Sa Song Road) - Hua Hin Hospital - Hua Hin Airport. The starting point in Khao Takiab is next to Khao Krailat Temple. Most of the buses travel on route Khao Takiab - Chatchai Market (Sa Song Road) and only some travel the full lenght route Khao Takiab - Hua Hin Airport. The starting point in the center of Hua Hin is at the corner of Chatchai Market on Sa Song Road.
At the starting point just sit down inside of the bus and wait for the driver. The driver will bip the car horn before starting the trip. This alerts all the locals which want to catch the bus. You can flag down the bus anywhere you want along the route and you can also get of the bus anywhere on the route. Just press the bell inside the bus and it will stop. The fare is 10Baht per person. Small children travel for free. The buses start to operate early in the morning and stop running before 7pm when all of them are transformed in taxis.
Both Tuk-Tuks / car taxis and motorcycle taxis require passengers to negotiate the fare before setting out. You can find them in front of all the major hotels, resorts and condominiums. Each Tuk-Tuks / car taxis spot have their own regular drivers and passing by Tuk -Tuks or car taxis are not allowed snatch customers from these spots. Typical prices for Tuk - Tuk or car taxi journeys within Hua Hin is between 100 - 200Baht. If at all you can our advice is to use the local bus. We do not recommed use of motorcycle taxis as they are were dangerous.
Tricycle rides are mainly for tourist. You need to negotiate the price before you hire tricycle. A typical charge is 300-400 Baht per hour. You can find tricycles next to Hua Hin Train Station, major hotels or tourist attractions.
