Remembering Phonkingphet and Centennial of World Boxing

Hua Hin Mayor Mr. Jira Phongphaiboon at Phonkingphet Public Park in Hua Hin presided over ceremony remembering Phonkingphet, Hua Hin’s great boxing champion and to celebrate Centennial of World Boxing. In attendance at the ceremony were administrators, municipal council members and heads of municipal departments. This ceremony has been held on every 16 April as the day of Phonkingphet. The Mayor has laid a wreath in front of the Phonkingphet Monument. 

Phonkingphet or Mana  Sidokbuab was a professional Thai boxer and three time world flyweight champion. He became Thailand's first world boxing champion on April 16, 1960 when he defeated Pascual Pérez of Argentina at Lumphini Boxing Stadium in Bangkok for the world flyweight championship. He got married with Mrs.Montha  Phetthai with 2 children and he died on March 31, 1982 at the age of 47.
