The fishing village Chao-Le festival

During the weekend 27-28 September 2008 Chairman of Fishing Village Club Khun Nanthapol Thaolipoh together with consultant Khun Siriwut Pongpaibul has arranged the annual celebration of Chao-Le. This is Hua Hin fisherman's festival which has a very long tradition and has been passed from generation to generation.

Long time ago Hua Hin's name was Thamor Rieng, and then it was Samor Rieng and Laem Hin. Finally about 100 years ago the name has changed to Hua Hin. This was about one hundred years ago when the Royal Prince Krom-pra-nares worariti used to come to Hua Hin. Now Hua Hin is well known worldwide.

Approximately 170 years came villagers to Hua Hin area from Kaeng-krajarn, Bang-jarn, Bang-keaw villages. They were very poor and didn't have any money. They have settled in Thamor Rieng, Samow Rieng, Nong Kae and Takiab village. They become farmers and fisherman in order to earn their living. They have passed their traditions from generation to generation and today Hua Hin residents still celebrate the Chao-Le festival. The fishermen who live in Hua Hin make a merit for all the aquatic animals they catch from the sea. The fishermen believe that it is a sin to catch so many aquatic animals.

Like every year at 2:30pm on the 27th September Hua Hin residents and villagers have gathered around Naresdamri Road and have formed procession. They have walked around the town and have presented the dolls, flower and candle & incense to the people who are waiting for the procession beside the road. Residents donate money when they receive the doll and flowers. The chairman of the Fishing Club will offer some of the money to Hua Hin Foundation to maintain the Joss House and the rest will be donated for municipality school. This year Hua Hin residents have donated more than two hundred thousand Baht.

On Sunday 28 September 2008 the committee from Fishing Club has offered foods to nine monks which came for prayers to the Joss House. There residents have participated in the ceremony. Hua Hin Lord Mayor Jira Pongpaibul was present and has donated 50,000 baht to support this Chao-Le club.
