King's solar water drip irrigation project

King's solar water drip irrigation projectOn Thursday  28  September  2007  consultant of King's development project General  Noppdol  Watthanothai and  a member of staff from King’s secretariat were assigned by the King to maintain the forest next to Sai Yai Beach that belong to HM the King and the Queen.

General Noppdol said that this project will be looked after by an under-secretary of Ministry of Defence  of  Military Department.

Chief commando officer Colonel Arwuth Bddhaumnouy  was assigned by General Noppdol to maintain the forest next to Sai Yai Beach. He will provide training to soldiers in his unit how the solar water drip project works. They will later use their knowledge to install solar water drip pumps to irrigate farm land.

Colonel Kris Kongkawai gave General Noppdol a brief about the King's solar water drip project. If this project is implemented on farm land, it can save farmers 200% in land irrigation running costs.

Technical Sale Manager from BP Solar Thailand Khun  Ruengrithi has explained the technical aspects of the King's solar water drip irrigation project.

Solar panels produce electricity from sunlight using silicon cells, with no moving parts. They provide enough energy for specially designed water pumps which utilize DC electric power from solar panels. Compared with other sources of energy, solar pumps are less expensive, and much easier to install and maintain. They provide a more consistent supply of water. They can be installed on farm land and wooded areas. One 150 watt solar panel can provide enough water for 1-2 rai land area. Water drips are directed to plant's roots.

General Noppdol said that once enough soldiers are familiar with running of solar water drip project, they will help with installation of these type irrigation systems on farm land. This will help the farmers reduce irrigation running costs.
